A wild donkey of the Perissodactyla order, family Equidae. Also known as the Przewalski's wild ass. It stands about 1.2m tall, with long, slender limbs. Its body color is reddish brown in summer and slightly grayish in winter. Its ears are short for a donkey, measuring around 15cm. Its hearing and eyesight are acute, and it is quick at running away. It breeds in September, with calves being born in May or early June. A very small number of them live in small herds in southern Mongolia and parts of northwestern China.

奇蹄目ウマ科。モウコノロバとも呼ばれる野生のロバ。体高 1.2mほどで，四肢は長く細い。体色は，夏は赤褐色，冬はやや灰色がかる。耳はロバとしては短く 15cm内外。聴覚，視覚は鋭く，逃げ足も速い。繁殖期は9月頃で，5～6月上旬に子が生れる。モンゴル南部と中国北西部の一部にごく少数が小群をつくって生活している。
