Two brothers - Two siblings

Japanese: 二人兄弟 - ふたりきょうだい

This is a typical European folk tale, usually about twin brothers. In Grimm's Fairy Tales, number 60 is this type of story. A woman, a dog, and a horse eat the same fish (or apple) and each give birth to twins. The twin brothers set out on a journey with the dog and the horse, and when they reach a certain point, they exchange knives and other items that will alert the other if their lives are in danger, before parting ways. The younger brother slays a dragon and marries the princess, but is put to stone by a witch's spell while hunting. Learning from his vital signs that his younger brother is in danger, the older brother goes to rescue him, first going to his younger brother's wife.

たいていは双子の兄弟とされる，ヨーロッパの代表的な昔話。《グリム童話》では60番がこの話型である。女と犬と馬が同じ魚(またはリンゴ)を食べてそれぞれ双子を生む。犬と馬それぞれの双子を連れて旅に出た双子の兄弟は，ある所でお互いに相手の命が危険に陥ればそれを知らせる小刀などを交換して別れる。弟は竜を倒して王女と結婚するが，狩りの途上，魔女に魔法をかけられて石になる。生命の指標で弟の危急を知った兄は救助に向かい，まず弟の妻のもとへ行く。
