A story of a chivalrous person

Japanese: 俠客物 - きょうかくもの

A type of Kabuki-Kyogen/Ningyo-Joruri with the theme of the tatehiki (powerful acts) of chivalrous men. It is also called "Otokodachi Kyogen" or "Otokodachimono". The first dramatization of chivalrous men was said to have been in 1698 (Genroku 11) at the Kataoka Nizaemonza in Osaka, where the first Nizaemon performed Danshichi, and since then, rewritten kyogen plays of Yadobu Danshichi have been performed one after another. The first of the Karigane Five Men was the Ningyo-Joruri "Karikane Bunshichi Aki no Frost" performed at the Okamoto Bunyaza in Osaka in September 1702, and many other plays were produced, including "Otokodatei Tsutsukarigane" (written by Takeda Izumo at the Takemotoza in Osaka in July 1742).

俠客(男達（おとこだて）)の達引（たてひき）を主題とする歌舞伎狂言･人形浄瑠璃の一系統。〈男達狂言〉〈男達物〉とも称する。任俠の徒を劇化した嚆矢（こうし）は1698年(元禄11)に大坂片岡仁左衛門座で初世仁左衛門が演じた団七であるとされ，以降，宿無団七の書替狂言がつぎつぎに演じられた。雁金五人男は1702年9月大坂岡本文弥座上演の人形浄瑠璃《雁金文七秋の霜》が最初で，《男作五雁金（おとこだていつつかりがね）》(1742年7月大坂竹本座，竹田出雲作)など多くの作を生んだ。
