National Congress of Parents and Teachers

...An abbreviation for "Parents and Teachers Association." It originated in the late 19th century in the United States as a movement for mothers to promote child welfare. The most famous example is the National Congress of Parents and Teachers (established in 1924), a group of organizations promoting environmental cleanup activities and the improvement of educational conditions in cities and towns. In Japan, there were also parents' associations, supporters' associations, and guardians' associations until World War II, but these were mainly organizations that served the financial and material aspects of schools.
