A Hollywood term referring to a blonde actress who is beautiful, seductive, and especially sexually attractive. It began to be used around 1928 when the first film adaptation of Anita Loos' humorous novel Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (directed by Malcolm St. Claire and starring Ruth Taylor and Alice White) was made, which featured chorus girls who seduce millionaires and swindle their money. The term became synonymous with the "sex appeal" of blonde actresses in the 1930s. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
