A former town in Kamitsuga County in western Tochigi Prefecture. Occupying the eastern foot of the Ashio Mountains, most of the area is mountainous. Produces konjac, rice, and strawberries. Famous for its cedar and cypress. The road along the Kasuo River was once an important transportation route to the Ashio Copper Mine. Incorporated into Kanuma City in January 2006. 177.32 km2 .
