[Born] December 27, 1860. Binky [Died] May 25, 1937. Prague Czechoslovakian politician. Born into a wealthy Bohemian businessman's family. Studied in Germany and France. Married the daughter of a Russian businessman. Joined the Young Czechs and advocated pan-Slavism. In domestic affairs he advocated transforming the Austro-Hungarian Empire into a Slavic nation, and in foreign affairs he advocated replacing the German-Austrian alliance with a Russo-Austrian alliance. In 1918-19 he became the first Prime Minister of independent Czechoslovakia. After stepping down from power he continued to be a leader of the National Democratic Party, but he gradually lost influence due to his extremely unrealistic and reactionary stance.
