An Islamic religious movement in Turkey after World War II. Led by Seydi Nursi from eastern Anatolia, it is not based on a specific religious organization (tariqa), but rather aims to organize Muslims from all over the world. The word "nurci" means a student or follower of Nursi's collection of writings, "The Book of Light (Nur)." The movement's immediate goal is to completely reject the current secularized and Westernized system of the Republic of Turkey and to establish an Islamic state based on the Koran and Sharia (Islamic law), but it also has branches in Arab countries, Pakistan, West Germany, and other countries, and is said to have a plan to establish an "Islamic world state."
