Clavijo - Claviho (English spelling) Ruy González de Clavijo

Clavijo - Claviho (English spelling) Ruy González de Clavijo

Spanish courtier. From the end of the 14th century to the beginning of the 15th century, the emerging Timur was threatening the Ottoman Turks from the East, who were threatening European countries. At that time, King Henry III of Castile and Leon was considering forming an alliance with Timur, and decided to send an envoy to Timur, appointing his chamberlain Clavijo as its leader. The envoy left in May 1403, passed through Constantinople, and met Timur in Samarkand in September of the following year. After staying there for three months, they returned home. On the way, they stayed in Tabriz for a long time, and arrived in Seville in March 1406. After returning home, Clavijo wrote a journal ( Historia del Gran Tamerlán ), which contains valuable records such as the state of Samarkand, the major central city of the Eastern world at that time, the internal affairs of the Timur Empire, the Christian historical sites in Constantinople, and the chaos within the empire after Timur's death, which he saw and heard on the way back.
