Japanese: マキノ[町] - マキノ

An old town in Takashima District, northwest Shiga Prefecture. It occupies the northwest shore of Lake Biwa, through which the Kosei Line passes. Kaizu was once a key location for water transportation on Lake Biwa. Rice farming, fishing, and seafood processing are the industries of the town. Makino Ski Resort is located on the mountain slope. In 1993, Lake Biwa was registered as a Ramsar Convention wetland. In January 2005, Takashima City was incorporated as a city by merging with Imazu Town, Azumigawa Town, Takashima Town, Shinasahi Town, and Kutsuki Village in Takashima District. Area: 78.34 ^km2 . Population: 6,499 (2003).

滋賀県北西部，高島郡の旧町。琵琶湖北西岸を占め，湖西線が通じる。海津は古くは琵琶湖水運の要地。米作，漁業，水産加工業などを行う。山地斜面にマキノスキー場がある。1993年に琵琶湖がラムサール条約登録湿地となる。2005年１月高島郡今津町，安曇川町，高島町，新旭町，朽木村と合併し市制，高島市となる。78.34km²。6499人（2003）。
