opus musivum (English spelling) opusmusivum

The term mosaic comes from the Greek mythology of nine Muses, and was originally called opus musivum in Latin.

In the southernmost part of Mesopotamia, at the temple of Uruk (late 4th millennium BC), the columns and other structures are decorated with mosaics of geometric patterns made of small pieces of terracotta.
