A former town in Kumage County in the southeastern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture. Yobisaka, located in the center of the area where the Iwateku Line, Sanyo Expressway, and National Route 2 pass through, is a former market town along the Sanyo Expressway. The town produces rice, wheat, timber, and mandarin oranges, and also raises dairy cows. Yatsushiro is famous as a migratory site for cranes (a special natural monument). It is home to Mitsuo Onsen. In April 2003, the town merged with Tokuyama City, Shinnanyo City, and Shikano Town to form Shunan City. 70.50 km2 . Population: 16,038 (2000). 山口県南東部,熊毛郡の旧町。岩徳線,山陽自動車道,国道2号線が通じる中心の呼坂(よびさか)は山陽道沿いの旧市場町。米麦,木材,ミカンを産し,乳牛も飼育。八代はツル渡来地(特別天然記念物)として有名。三丘(みつお)温泉がある。2003年4月,徳山市,新南陽市,鹿野町と合併して周南市となる。70.50km2。1万6038人(2000)。
