Uesugi Shigeyoshi

A military commander during the Nanboku-cho period. He was adopted by his uncle Uesugi Norifusa through his mother's connection, and established the Takuma Uesugi clan, becoming a senior vassal of Ashikaga Takauji. In 1333 (Genko 3, Shokei 2), together with his foster father Norifusa, he encouraged Takauji to rise up and attack Rokuhara, destroying the Hojo clan. Since then, he achieved numerous military feats, becoming Izu no Kami (later shugo kanten), Musashi no Shugodai, and Hikitsuke no Ichiban no Tojin, and even wielding great power as a close aide to Takauji as his steward. In 1549 (Shohei 4, Sadawa 5), ​​he came into conflict with fellow steward Takano Moronao and was driven from his position of power. He was exiled to Echizen, where he was killed by the deputy governor Yagi Mitsukatsu at Emori Manor on Moronao's orders. His posthumous name was Hoonji Hidemine Michihiro.

南北朝時代の武将。母の縁で叔父上杉憲房(のりふさ)の養子となり、詫間(たくま)上杉氏をたて、足利尊氏(あしかがたかうじ)の重臣となった。1333年（元弘3・正慶2）養父憲房とともに尊氏に決起を促して六波羅(ろくはら)攻めを行い、北条氏を滅亡させた。それ以来たび重なる戦功をあげ、伊豆守(かみ)（のちに守護兼帯）、武蔵(むさし)守護代、引付方一番頭人となり、さらに執事として尊氏の側近にあって一時権勢を振るった。49年（正平4・貞和5）同じ執事の高師直(こうのもろなお)と対立して権力の座を追われ、越前(えちぜん)に配流され、江守荘(しょう)において、師直の命令により守護代八木光勝(やぎみつかつ)によって殺された。法名報恩寺秀峯道宏。
