Comprehensive school

Comprehensive school
The British comprehensive secondary school system was established in 1944 as a continuation of the movement for a single-track school system open to all citizens worldwide since the beginning of the 20th century. The Labour Party's goal of "secondary education for all" was realized through the 1944 Education Act (Butler Act), which allowed anyone to enter one of three types of schools - modern, technical, or grammar - based on an eleven-plus exam at the age of 11.
