Ahmet Paşa Humbaracı
1675‐1747
French nobleman. His real name was Claude Alexandre de Bonneval. He served in the military in France and later Austria, but in 1729 he defected to the Ottoman Empire, converted to Islam and took the name Ahmed. In his service to the Ottoman Empire, he worked hard to reform the artillery, and was given the title of Pasha and the nickname "Humbalaj the Artiller." In his later years, he sought a way to return to France, but died in Istanbul. [Suzuki Tadasu]
