Field theory

...Surveys, experiments, and clinical research on groups began in the United States in the 1920s and 1930s, and were systematized by social psychologists led by Kurt Lewin (1890-1947). Lewin considered groups to be psychological fields of force, and proposed the "field theory" which seeks to understand individual phenomena in relation to the structure of the group. Major research on group dynamics includes experimental analyses of group cohesion, group pressure and group standards, group goals, group mobility, structural characteristics of groups, and leadership.
