1898‐1930 The seventh Shah of the Qajar dynasty. Reigned 1909-25. Born in Tabriz as the second son of the sixth Shah, Mohammad Ali. During the Iranian Constitutional Revolution, he succeeded his father, who was dethroned when the faction took control of Tehran due to a fierce conflict with the constitutionalists, and ascended to the throne as the last Shah of the dynasty (1909). After a five-year regency period, he began to rule directly just before World War I, but came into conflict with Reza Khan (Reza Shah Pahlavi), who seized real power after a coup in 1921. In 1925, when the Fifth Parliament passed a resolution to abolish the Qajar dynasty, he retired to France. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
