1859‐95 Mexican poet. Along with Cuba's José Martí, he is a representative of Modernist poetry. He started out as a prose writer with the novella "Ephemeral Tales" (1882), but later continued to publish Modernist poetry influenced by Musset, Gautier, and Verlaine in the magazine "Ao", which he founded in 1894. The magazine is an important publication that cannot be overlooked when talking about the Modernist poetry movement in Latin America.
