Affinity (English spelling)

Japanese: 姻族 - いんぞく(英語表記)affinity
Affinity (English spelling)
This refers to the blood relatives and blood relatives of a spouse who are related by marriage. Whether a spouse, a blood relative of a spouse, or a blood relative's spouse is included in the scope of relatives or whether they are considered relatives by marriage varies depending on the culture, and even if they are defined as relatives by marriage, the form of the bond between them also varies depending on the culture. Generally, in a single-lineage group of descent from the patrilineal or matrilineal line, the spouse, the blood relatives of the spouse, and the blood relative's spouse are all relatives by marriage, but in the Japanese Civil Code, relatives by marriage within the third degree are considered relatives by marriage (Article 725). In-law relationships end upon divorce or when one of the spouses dies and the surviving spouse expresses an intention to end the in-law relationship (Article 728). Legal effects arising from in-law relationships include the obligation of mutual assistance between in-laws living together (Article 730), the prohibition of marriage between direct lineage relatives by marriage (Article 735), and the obligation to support (Article 877), but unlike blood relatives, in-laws are not recognized as having the right of inheritance.
