Couscous (English spelling) Phalanger; cuscus

Couscous (English spelling) Phalanger; cuscus
A general term for animals belonging to the marsupial genus Cuscus, family Cuscus. The most common species are the gray cuscus P. orientaris and the spotted cuscus P. maculatus. Some theories classify them into 7 to 10 species. The body length is 27 to 65 cm, the tail length 24 to 48 cm, and the weight can reach 5 kg in large species. Males are larger than females. Body color varies from cream to black depending on the species. In the spotted cuscus, the sexes are different, and only the males have dark spots. The body shape is similar to that of the prosimian loris, with a round head, small ears, and large eyes. The body is covered with silky hair. The first finger of the hind leg faces the other fingers, allowing it to firmly grasp tree trunks and branches like a human hand. The tip of the tail is exposed, allowing it to wrap around branches, making it well adapted to arboreal life. It moves slowly. It basically lives alone, and is thought to have a "territory" because it intimidates other individuals. It is nocturnal and feeds mainly on fruit and buds, but also on insects and bird eggs. It has a gestation period of 13 days and gives birth to about three young, but only one grows. It is found in the tropical forests of New Guinea, the northern tip of Australia, Maluku Island, Sulawesi Island, and the Solomon Islands.

Japanese:
ハイイロクスクス P.orientarisとブチクスクス P.maculatusが代表的。
