Johen [town] - Johen
A former town in Minamiuwa District, southern Ehime Prefecture. It occupies the Sozu River basin and faces Sukumo Bay to the south. The central settlement is where a castle stood in the late Middle Ages, and Suwa Shrine stands on the castle ruins. Fukaura in the south is the base for sardine and bonito fishing, and seafood processing is also carried out there. The coast is part of Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park. In October 2004, it merged with Mishou Town, Ipponmatsu Town, Nishiumi Town, and Utsumi Village in Minamiuwa District to become Ainan Town in Minamiuwa District. 75.35 km2 . 9,598 people (2003).

Gusukube [town] [Gusukube]

A former town in Miyako County, Okinawa Prefecture, occupying the eastern part of Miyako Island. The largest settlement is Aragusuku. Most of the area is a 50-100m elevated coral reef, and the area is home to a sugar factory and is mainly produced with sugarcane. Cape Agarihenna on the eastern end is a scenic spot. In October 2005, the town merged with Hirara City, Miyako County's Shimoji Town, Irabu Town, and Ueno Village to become Miyakojima City. 57.60 km2 . 7,718 people (2003).

愛媛県南部,南宇和郡の旧町。僧都(そうづ)川の流域を占め,南は宿毛(すくも)湾に臨む。中心集落は中世末期に城のあったところで,城跡に諏訪(すわ)神社がある。南部の深浦はイワシ・カツオ漁業の根拠地で水産加工も行われる。海岸は足摺宇和海国立公園に属する。2004年10月南宇和郡御荘町,一本松町,西海町,内海村と合併し,南宇和郡愛南町となる。75.35km2。9598人(2003)。

沖縄県,宮古島の東部を占める宮古郡の旧町。最大の集落は新城(あらぐすく)。大部分は50〜100mの隆起サンゴ礁で,サトウキビを主産,製糖工場がある。東端の東平安名(あがりへんな)岬は景勝地。2005年10月,平良市,宮古郡下地町,伊良部町,上野村と合併し市制,宮古島市となる。57.60km2。7718人(2003)。
