・Gross profit
・Gross profit = Sales revenue - Cost of sales ・Gross profit (gross margin) refers to the profit calculated on the income statement by subtracting cost of sales from sales revenue.
・Companies earn gross profit by adding some kind of added value to raw materials procured from outside and selling them to customers at a price higher than the cost of sales. The amount of added value represents the competitiveness of the product or the selling company in the market.
- Gross profit is also sometimes used as a performance indicator when calculating bonus funds in human resources-related matters.
・The advantage of using it is that it is possible to strengthen awareness of sales results. On the other hand, the disadvantage is that costs other than the cost of sales are not taken into account, so bonus funds may put pressure on the financial base. Also, there is a risk that employees' awareness of costs other than the cost of sales may decrease.

・売上総利益(粗利)は損益計算書上において、売上高から売上原価を差し引いて計算される利益のことを指す。
・企業は、外部から調達した原材料などに何らかの付加価値を付け、売上原価より高い値段で顧客に販売するなどして、売上総利益を稼ぐ。付加する付加価値の大きさは、その商材や販売企業の市場における競争力の大きさを表す。
・また、売上総利益は人事関連において賞与原資を算出する際の業績指標として活用されることがある。
・活用するメリットは、営業における成果に対する意識付けを強化することが可能であること。一方、デメリットは、売上原価以外のコストが加味されておらず、賞与原資が財務基盤を圧迫する可能性があること。また、社員の売上原価以外のコストに対する意識が低下する恐れがあることが挙げられる。
