Kusha sect (English spelling) Jù shě zōng

Japanese: 俱舎宗 - くしゃしゅう（英語表記）Jù shě zōng

The Abhidharmakośa is a group of scholars who study and lecture on various sutras and treatises, mainly Vasubandhu's Abhidharmakośa and its commentaries, and who inherit them from one teacher to another. They were also called the Kusha group or the Sattva-ta school. In India and Tibet, the Abhidharmakośa was actively studied and lectured on as a required subject in Buddhist doctrine, and in China it was translated into Chinese by Tripitaka Zhendi along with the Mahāyāna-śāstra (566-567), and then retranslated by Tripitaka Xuanzang along with many other sutras and treatises of the Yogacara school (654). Since then, it has been studied and lectured on in the Yogacara and Hosso-Yinyācāra schools, and several important commentaries have been produced.

世親の《阿毘達磨俱舎論》(アビダルマコーシャAbhidharmakośa)およびその注疏を中心として諸経論を研究･講義し，師資相承する学僧たちの学団をいう。俱舎衆，薩婆多（サツバタ）宗ともよばれた。インドやチベットにおいて《俱舎論》は，仏教教理学の必修科目としてさかんに研究･講義され，中国においても真諦（しんだい）三蔵によって《摂大乗論（しようだいじようろん）》などとともに漢訳され(566‐567)，さらに玄奘（げんじよう）三蔵によって多数の唯識学系統の経論とともに再訳されて(654)以後，それぞれ摂論学派と法相唯識学派の学統において研究･講義され，いくつかの重要な注疏がつくられた。
