Kainic Acid - Kainic Acid

( 2S , 3S , 4S )-2-carboxy-4-isopropenyl-3-pyrrolidineacetic acid _{. C10H15NO4} (213.23). ₍ -)-α-Kainic acid found in the red alga Digenea simplex . It has physiological activity as an anthelmintic, and was previously used in mass anthelmintics at primary and secondary schools for the anthelmintic treatment of parasites. Its structure is similar to that of the neurotransmitter glutamate, stimulating glutamate receptors and paralyzing the movement of nematodes and cestodes. It also has a neuroexcitatory effect on mammals, and large doses can destroy specific areas of the hippocampus. Melting point 251°C (decomposition). -14.1°. (2S,3S,4S)-2-carboxy-4-isopropenyl-3-pyrrolidineacetic acid．C₁₀H₁₅NO₄(213.23)．紅藻の一種である海人藻Digenea simplexに含まれる(－)-α-カイニン酸のこと．駆虫剤(虫くだし)としての生理活性があり，以前は，小・中学校において寄生虫の集団駆虫に使用された．神経伝達物質のグルタミン酸に構造が似ているため，グルタミン酸の受容体を刺激し，線虫や条虫の運動を麻ひさせる作用がある．また，ほ乳動物に対しても神経興奮性作用があり，大量投与すると大脳海馬の特定領域が破壊される．融点251 ℃(分解)．－14.1°．水に可溶，エーテルに不溶．pK_a1 2.05，pK_a2 4.30，pK_a3 10.08．[CAS 487-79-6]
