Akame pufferfish - Akame pufferfish

A marine fish belonging to the order Tetraodontiformes and family Tetraodontiidae of the class Osteichthyes. It is endemic to Japan and is found only on the Pacific coast near Misaki, Kanagawa Prefecture. It is about 27 centimeters long. Its body is slightly compressed, and its back is brown with small black spots scattered on it. It is often confused with the red pufferfish, but it can be distinguished by the lack of the small bumps on its skin seen in the red pufferfish.

硬骨魚綱フグ目フグ科に属する海水魚。日本固有種で、神奈川県三崎付近の太平洋側にのみ分布する。全長約27センチメートル。体はやや側扁(そくへん)し、体の背側は褐色で小黒斑(こくはん)が散在する。ヒガンフグと混同されていることが多いが、ヒガンフグにみられる皮膚の小瘤状(りゅうじょう)物がないので区別できる。
