A commentary on Karakuri from the early Edo period. Published in 1730 (Kyoho 15). Written by Tagaya Kanchusen and illustrated by Kawaeda Toyonobu. Includes Shuchin/Otogi and Tsunogaki. Two volumes and three books. The first volume shows 28 representative Karakuri of the time, and the second volume provides illustrations and explanations for each. The Karakuri devices are 9 types of string mechanisms using pulleys and levers, one each of pumps, springs, gears, and mercury, and the rest are similar to magic tricks and conjuring, and are technically simple and childish. 江戸初期の〈からくり〉解説書。1730年(享保15)刊。多賀谷環中仙撰。川枝豊信画。〈拾珍(しゆうちん)/御伽(おとぎ)〉と角書(つのがき)がある。2巻3冊。上巻で当時の代表的な〈からくり〉28種の図を掲げ,下巻でそれぞれにつき図解・種明しをした書。〈からくり〉の装置は滑車やてこを利用した糸からくりが9種を占め,ポンプ,ばね,歯車,水銀を用いたものが各1種,その他は奇術,手品に類するもので,技術的には単純にして幼稚なものである。
