The capital of Qassim Province in the Nejd Region in central Saudi Arabia. Population 333,500 (2003 estimate). A fertile oasis city, it has flourished since ancient times as an important location on caravan and pilgrimage routes. It is the country's most important agricultural city, and is home to an agricultural training center that provides instruction in modern agricultural techniques.
