A facility for drawing irrigation water from rivers and lakes into a waterway. It usually consists of an intake, an intake weir, ancillary facilities, and management facilities, but if the conditions for intake are good, an intake weir may not be installed. Intake weirs are divided into fixed weirs and movable weirs (sand spillways, flood spillways) depending on whether they have a gate; ancillary facilities include grit basins, fishways, boat passes, and spillways, while management facilities include control rooms and management bridges. Their design is subject to the restrictions of the "Structural Ordinance for River Management Facilities, etc." [Kubo Shigetaka] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
