Headworks - Toushuko

A facility for drawing irrigation water from rivers and lakes into a waterway. It usually consists of an intake, an intake weir, ancillary facilities, and management facilities, but if the conditions for intake are good, an intake weir may not be installed. Intake weirs are divided into fixed weirs and movable weirs (sand spillways, flood spillways) depending on whether they have a gate; ancillary facilities include grit basins, fishways, boat passes, and spillways, while management facilities include control rooms and management bridges. Their design is subject to the restrictions of the "Structural Ordinance for River Management Facilities, etc."

河川や湖沼から用水を水路に引き入れるための施設。通常、取り入れ口、取水堰(ぜき)、付帯施設および管理施設より構成されるが、取水条件が良好な場合には、取水堰を設けない場合もある。取水堰の形式は、ゲートの有無により、固定堰と可動堰（土砂吐、洪水吐）に分けられ、付帯施設には、沈砂池、魚道、舟通し、放水路などが、また、管理施設には操作室や管理橋などがある。これらの設計にあたっては「河川管理施設等構造令」の制約を受ける。
