Blue dragon sword-shaped stone tool

Japanese: 青竜刀形石器 - せいりゅうとうがたせっき

A type of polished stone tool from the Jomon period. One end of the flattened semicircular blade extends to form a rod-shaped handle. It is large, measuring 15-38 cm in length and just under 2 cm thick. It was named for its shape, which resembles the Chinese Qinglongdao, but while the Qinglongdao has a blade on the arced edge of a semicircle, the Qinglongdao-shaped stone tool has a slightly inward-curving straight edge that is made thinner, has grooves carved into the arced edge, and sometimes has a protrusion near the handle, making it different from the Qinglongdao. There is a tendency for the semicircular part to become thinner over time, and it is highly likely that this changed into a late stone knife with a groove on the ridge.

縄文時代の磨製石器の一種。扁平な半円形の刃部の一端がのびて，棒状の柄になっている。長さ15～38cm，厚さ2cm弱と大型である。中国の青竜刀に似た形状から名付けられたが，青竜刀が半円形の弧状の縁に刃がつくのに対して，青竜刀形石器はやや内反りの直線縁のほうを薄く作り，弧状の縁には溝を刻み，柄の近くに突起をつけることもあり，その内容は青竜刀と異なる。時期を追って半円形部が細身になる傾向がみられ，棟（むね）部に溝のある晩期の石刀へと変化した可能性が強い。
