Deep in Nikko - Okuno Nikko

...It is said that the Kitabatake clan built the shrine during the Muromachi period, and the Oura clan during the Sengoku period, and the Tsugaru (Oura) clan revered and renovated the shrine for generations. The current shrine was built in 1847 (4th year of the Koka era) and is known as "Nikko of the Deep North." The annual festival is held on the 1st of August in the lunar calendar.
