Two rock-cut temple ruins on the west bank of the Nile, about 280 km south of Aswan in southern Egypt. Two of the seven temples built by Ramses II in Nubia. They were relocated by UNESCO in 1964-68 to save them from submersion during the construction of the Aswan High Dam. The Great Temple is dedicated to Ra-Harakhti, Amun-Ra, Ptah, and the deified Ramses II himself, and faces east toward the rising sun. The four colossal statues that sit majestically in front of the temple, which is about 30 m high and 35 m wide, are all of Ramses II (21 m high).
