Japanese: キンモウワラビ - きんもうわらび

This fern of the Melastomataceae family usually grows in the cracks of limestone, with characteristic rhizomes covered with beautiful golden-brown scales. The rhizomes are short, creeping, dorsoventrally oriented, and the leaves grow crowded on the dorsal side. Only the rhizomes and the base of the petioles are densely covered with thin golden-brown scales measuring 2 cm in length. The entire leaf is covered with sharp, pointed white hairs. The leaves are 30-50 cm long, with ovate-tri-pentagonal leaf blades, 3-4 times pinnate, and pale green in color. The sporangia are located on the dorsal side of the veins, reniform, and covered with a hairy periclosal membrane.
