A former town in Chiisagata County, bordering Ueda City in the northeastern part of Nagano Prefecture. Formerly known as Sanada-go, the town was named after the Sanada clan. Highland vegetables, fruit trees, and flowers (persimmons) are produced here. Sugadaira is located here. In March 2006, it was incorporated into Ueda City along with Maruko Town and Takeshi Village in Chiisagata County. Area 181.90 km2 . Population 11,811 (2003). 長野県北東部,上田市に接する小県(ちいさがた)郡の旧町。古くは真田郷と呼ばれ,町名も真田氏にちなんでつけられた。高原野菜,果樹,花卉(かき)を産する。菅平(すがだいら)がある。2006年3月小県郡丸子町,武石村と上田市へ編入。181.90km2。1万1811人(2003)。
