[Species and distribution]
Wheat consists of four groups: elytium (diploid, 2 n = 14 chromosomes, genome A ), diploid (tetraploid, 2 n = 28, genome AB ), thymopheline (tetraploid, 2 n = 28, genome AG ), and common wheat (hexaploid, 2 n = 42, genome ABD ). These four groups differ in the number of chromosomes and are considered to be good examples of significant allopolyploidy (polyploidy formed by the combination of different genomes). …
