Common myrtle
A tree of the Myrtaceae family known since ancient times as myrtle in Arabia and Europe. Also known as the celebration tree, it is used for wedding wreaths, planted in gardens as a flowering tree, and used as cut flowers. The leaves and fruit are fragrant, and are used to flavor alcohol and food, and as an ingredient in perfumes. It is native to the Middle East and Mediterranean regions. It is an evergreen shrub about 3m tall, with many branches that grow thickly and naturally shaped. The leaves are lanceolate, pointed at the tip, about 4cm long, dark green, shiny, leathery, and grow densely on the branches in opposite pairs.
