A tree of the Myrtaceae family known since ancient times as myrtle in Arabia and Europe. Also known as the celebration tree, it is used for wedding wreaths, planted in gardens as a flowering tree, and used as cut flowers. The leaves and fruit are fragrant, and are used to flavor alcohol and food, and as an ingredient in perfumes. It is native to the Middle East and Mediterranean regions. It is an evergreen shrub about 3m tall, with many branches that grow thickly and naturally shaped. The leaves are lanceolate, pointed at the tip, about 4cm long, dark green, shiny, leathery, and grow densely on the branches in opposite pairs. アラビアやヨーロッパではミルテの名で古くから知られているフトモモ科の樹木。祝の木(いわいのき)とも称され,結婚式の花輪にされるほかに,花木として庭園に植えられ,切花にも利用される。葉と果実が香るので,酒や食物の香付けや香水の原料ともなる。原産地は中近東から地中海地方。常緑低木で高さ3mくらい,枝は多く出てよく茂り,樹形は自然に整う。葉は披針形で先はとがり長さ4cmくらい,濃緑色で光沢があり革質,対生して枝に密につく。
