A town in the Saône-et-Loire department in central France. It is located 24 km northwest of Mâcon, on the left bank of the Grone River, a tributary of the Saône. The town's origins date back to the founding of the Benedictine Abbey of Cluny (910). Currently, livestock trading is active. In addition to parts of the abbey, Notre-Dame Cathedral (13th century) and the Cheese Tower (11th century) remain. Population 4,133 (1982).
