Head of a Nagauta shamisen school. Son of the elder brother of the wife of the 10th head of the branch family, Kineya Rokuzaemon. In Bunkyu 1 (1861), he became the 11th head Rokuzaemon from the 5th head Saburosuke, and in Keio 4 (68), he handed over the Rokuzaemon name to his brother-in-law Kisaburo, took the name Kangoro, and moved to Negishi. He is known to the world as "Negishi's Kangoro." He left behind famous pieces such as "Kishu Dojoji," "Shiki no Yamauba," "Hashi Benkei," "Tsunadate," "Mochizuki," and "Tsuchigumo," and as a researcher of music, he left records such as "Osatsuma 48 Techniques," "Osatsuma Kineya Genealogy," "Ozashiki Program Recordings," and "Shibaibayashi Nikki," making a great contribution to the study of Nagauta for future generations. His other names were Kineya Terumi and Osatsuma Gendayu.

長唄三味線方の家元。別家 10代杵屋六左衛門の妻の兄の子。文久1 (1861) 年,5世三郎助から 11代六左衛門となり,慶応4 (68) 年,義弟喜三郎に六左衛門名義を譲り,勘五郎を名のり,根岸に移り住んだ。世に「根岸の勘五郎」と呼ばれる。『紀州道成寺』『四季の山姥』『橋弁慶』『綱館』『望月』『土蜘蛛』などの名曲を世に残すとともに,音曲の研究家として『大薩摩四十八手』『大薩摩杵屋系図』『御座敷番組控』『芝居囃子日記』などの記録を残し,後世の長唄研究のために多大の功績を残した。別号稀音家照海,大薩摩絃太夫。
