A bird of the Phasianidae family. Wingspan: 19cm. Males have a long tail and a red underside. The feathers on their head and lower back are golden, hence the name. Females are brown all over with scattered dark brown markings. Native to southwestern China, they live in mountainous areas at altitudes of 900-1300m. They are often kept as ornamental animals. キジ科の鳥。翼長19cm。雄は尾が長く腹面が赤色。頭頂の羽冠と腰が黄金色なのでこの名がある。雌は全身褐色で暗褐色の斑紋が散在。中国南西部の原産で標高900〜1300mの山地にすむ。観賞用によく飼われる。
