Born: February 26, 1932 in Kingsland, Arkansas [Died] September 12, 2003. American singer-songwriter from Nashville, Tennessee. Real name JR Cash. A legendary country and western singer, his genre-free music also influenced folk and rock music. His deep baritone, clear lyrics, and sincere and warm attitude towards the weak captured people's hearts and made him an idol. Born the son of a poor farmer. In 1956, he had a hit with "I Walk the Line," and in 1963, he topped the charts with "Ring of Fire," written by his second wife, June Carter. He wore black clothes and was nicknamed the "Man in Black." In the 1960s and 1970s, he hosted a TV show with Bob Dylan, and his records achieved sales comparable to those of the Beatles. He won 13 Grammy Awards, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1980, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, and received the Kennedy Center Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996.
