…At first, the Edo store mainly handled Kyoto-made fans, small items, and kiseru, but in the 18th century, cotton became the main product, and the store became a major cotton wholesaler. Cotton wholesalers in Edo were divided into two groups: the Odenmacho group, which had its main store in Ise and many wholesalers specialized in cotton, and the Shirako group, which had its main store in Kyoto and many wholesalers that also handled kimono. Kashiwaya belonged to the Shirako group, and was unique as a wholesaler that mainly handled cotton, even though its main store was in Kyoto. During the An'ei era (1772-81), the store opened a lacquerware store under the name of Kuroeya Taibei, and in 1781 (Tenmei 1), a paper store under the name of Matsuzakaya Han'emon in Edo, and after the Meiji era, it transitioned to a Western paper store. …

…江戸店では初めは京都産の扇子，小間物，きせるなどを主として扱うが，18世紀に入ると木綿が中心となり，木綿問屋として大をなした。江戸の木綿問屋は，伊勢に本店をおき木綿専業の問屋が多い大伝馬町組と，京都に本店をおき呉服兼業の問屋が多い白子組の2群に分かれるが，柏屋は白子組に所属し，京都に本店がありながら木綿を主として扱う問屋として異色の存在であった。安永年間(1772‐81)には黒江屋太兵衛名義の塗物店を，1781年(天明1)には松坂屋半右衛門名義の紙店を江戸に開き，明治期以降は洋紙店に移行した。…
