[In the case of crystals]
A band-like area where the slip plane is sharply bent locally and the lattice orientation is rotated. The band boundary where the lattice orientation is bent (kink boundary) occurs perpendicular to the slip direction when slip occurs by one slip system. The axis of crystal rotation within the band is perpendicular to the slip direction and lies on the slip plane. Deformation tends to concentrate on the crystals within the band.
[In the case of rock structure]
It refers to a band-like section of a rock with a set of pronounced cleavage structures, indicated by a sharp bend in the cleavage plane.

［結晶の場合］
　すべり面が局部的にシャープに折れ曲がり，格子方位が回転している帯状部分をいう。格子方位が屈曲する帯の境界(キンク境界)は，すべりが一つのすべり系によって起こる場合，すべり方向に垂直に発生する。バンド内における結晶回転の軸はすべり方向に垂直ですべり面上にある。変形作用はバンド内の結晶に集中する傾向がある。
［岩石構造の場合］
　1組の著しいへき開構造をもつ岩石で，へき開面のシャープな屈曲で示される帯状部分をさす。
