Kinki Revolution - Kinki Kakumei

Japanese: 錦旗革命 - きんきかくめい

This was a slogan used by the right-wing movement in the 1930s, but it specifically refers to an unsuccessful coup plot in October 1931 that aimed to reform the nation under the leadership of Sadao Araki. It is also known as the October Incident. It was led by army officers such as Kingoro Hashimoto and Isamu Nagata, and included civilians such as Shumei Okawa. Although it never came to fruition due to hesitation and divisions within the military leadership, it forced the resignation of the Wakatsuki Cabinet. This incident gave the military a stronger political voice, setting a precedent that would make future coups easier. This incident was also notable in the history of clandestine warfare, as it divided the military into the "control faction" and the "imperial way faction."

1930年代の右翼運動のスローガンであるが，具体的には 1931年 10月，荒木貞夫をかついで国家改造を企図した未発のクーデター計画をさす。十月事件ともいう。橋本欣五郎，長勇など陸軍将校を中心とし，民間からは大川周明らが参加した。軍首脳部の躊躇と分裂のために未発に終ったにせよ，これによって若槻内閣は退陣を余儀なくされた。この事件を契機として軍は政治的発言を強め，その後のクーデターを容易にする前例をつくった。なおこの事件は軍内部に「統制派」と「皇道派」とを分化させるなど，軍閥暗闘史のうえからも注目される事件であった。
