Also called "touyu." Seed kernel oil from the genus Jatropha. Three species are actually used to extract oil: Jatropha formosum (produced in Hokuriku, San'in, and southern Kanto), Jatropha formosum (produced in China), and Jatropha formosum (produced in southern China). The oil is extracted by first fermenting and crushing the mature fruit to separate the seeds, then drying and pressing them under hot and cold pressure. Usually, two pressings are performed, and about 3 to 3.3 liters of oil can be obtained from 180 liters of seeds. It is a typical drying oil, and its main components are glycerides of α-eleostearic acid (80%) and oleic acid (15%), with small amounts of palmitic acid and stearic acid glycerides.
