Died November 5, 1807. A Swiss female painter in Rome. A gifted young woman who was well acquainted with Winckelmann, Goethe, Herder, Joseph II, and Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria. From an early age, she traveled around the country with her father, the painter Johann Joseph Kaufmann. From 1766, she lived in London for 15 years. She was one of the founders of the Royal Academy there. She is known for creating decorative murals for R. Adam's buildings. She has lived in Rome since 1782. Her distinctive style combines the delicateness of the Rococo style with the neoclassical style. She also painted portraits of Goethe, Winckelmann, and others. Her major work is Miranda and Ferdinand (Austrian Museum).

Kaufman, Konstantin Petrovich

[Died] May 16, 1882. Tashkent Russian military officer. Joined the army as an engineer officer in 1839, served in the Caucasus from 1844 to 1855, became a major general in 1857, and head of the Military Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of War in 1861, helping the Minister of War DA Milyutin in reforming the military system. Became the commander of the Vilensk army in 1865, and the first Governor-General of Turkestan in 1867, and was posted to Tashkent. Given vast authority over military administration and diplomacy, he conquered the three khanates of Bukhara in 1868, Khiva in 1873, and Kokand in 1875, expanding Russia's territory into Central Asia.

ロシアの軍人。 1839年陸軍工兵将校として軍隊に入り,44~55年カフカス(コーカサス) 勤務,57年少将,61年陸軍省軍務局長となって,陸相 D.A.ミリューチンの軍制改革を助けた。 65年ビレンスク軍司令官,67年初代トルキスタン総督となり,タシケントに赴任。軍政,外交に関する広大な権限を与えられて,68年ブハラ,73年ヒバ,75年コカンドの3ハン国を征服,ロシアの領土を中央アジアに拡大した。
