A village in Tsukubo County in southern Okayama Prefecture. Population 5,484 (1995). Located on the east bank of the downstream Takahashi River, it borders Soja City to the north and Kurashiki City to the south. The northwest is flat, floodplain land of the Takahashi River, while the southeast is mountainous. Karube, where the town office is located, was once an island in the Takahashi River. The JR Hakubi Line runs along the Takahashi River, and Kiyone Station, which is the junction of the JR Bus Yakage Line, is one of the busiest stations on the Hakubi Line. It used to be a purely agricultural village, mainly focused on rice paddy cultivation, but with the development of the Mizushima coastal industrial area, part-time work has been increasing, and it is changing into suburban agriculture.
