Maebashi [city] - Maebashi

Japanese:
Maebashi [city] - Maebashi
A city in the southern part of Gunma Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1892 and is the prefectural capital. It occupies the area where the foothills of Mount Akagi and Mount Haruna meet, with the Tone River flowing south between them. It is adjacent to the east of Takasaki City and the northwest of Isesaki City. The city center used to be a post station on the Tosando road and was called Mayabashi. In the early modern period, it developed as a castle town and market town for the Hiraiwa, Sakai, and Matsudaira clans. In 1870, Japan's first mechanized silk-reeling factory was built, and it developed along with the silk-reeling industry. Until World War II, it was a famous raw silk town, along with Okaya and Toyohashi. After the war, the silk-reeling industry declined, but many industrial parks were built on the west bank of the Tone River and other areas, and factories for transport equipment, electrical equipment, etc. were established, and food, woodworking, etc. are also carried out. The Joetsu Line, Ryomo Line, Jomo Electric Railway, and Kan-etsu Expressway pass through the city. In terms of rail transport, it is not as well off as Takasaki, as it is off the main line, but in terms of road transport, an interchange has been built between Takasaki and the Kan-etsu Expressway, and urban functions are being further improved. In rural areas, vegetable cultivation, livestock farming, and greenhouse horticulture are carried out. There are many ancient tombs scattered throughout the city, including eight that are national historic sites, such as Futagoyama and Hotoyama. In December 2004, the city incorporated the villages of Ogo, Miyagi, and Kasukawa in Seta County, and in May 2009, the city incorporated the village of Fujimi in Seta County. 311.59 km2 . Population: 340,291 (2010).

Japanese:
311.59km2。
