...One of the important factors in this is the wide range of the actual meaning of play as an everyday term, which is the premise for the definition of the concept. In addition, there is an intellectual tradition in Europe that sees all human activities (from those that occur once at the individual level to those that are socially and culturally institutionalized) as play. As J. Henriot ("Play") pointed out, this tradition has a lineage that goes back to Plato's proposition that humans were created as God's playthings, through Montaigne, Pascal, La Fontaine, La Rochefoucauld, Balzac, and others, and all the way to Sartre, the existentialist philosopher. It is a future issue for individual sciences to systematize the various play theories that have been constructed from this wide range, each of which has its own unique limited subject and methodology.
