A former town in Miyazaki County in the southern part of Miyazaki Prefecture. The Nippō Main Line runs through the area. It is a suburban agricultural area producing rice, vegetables, mandarin oranges, and tobacco, and also engaged in livestock farming, wood processing, and food manufacturing. It was the birthplace of Yasui Ikken and is home to his library. Incorporated into Miyazaki City in March 2010. 47.81 km 2 .
