Japanese: 下学邇言 - かがくじげん

Written by Mito domain scholar Kaizawa Seishisai. Drafted in 1847 (4th year of the Koka era). Seven volumes, consisting of five sections: On Dao (The Way), On Gaku (The Learning), On Seigi (Politics), On Rites (Religion), and On Ji (Time). Centering on basic concepts such as Dao (The Way), Gaku (The Learning), Seigi (Politics), Rites (Religion), and Ji (Time), Seishisai's thought is systematically discussed in classical Chinese. In contrast to another work, Shinron (The New Theory), which is primarily a political treatise, this work has a significance as an academic treatise, and the two works can be said to be two sides of the same coin. The complete work was published in 1892, and an excerpt is included in the Encyclopedia of Japanese Economy and other publications. [Suzuki Eiichi]

水戸藩の学者会沢正志斎の著。1847年(弘化4)稿。7巻で，論道，論学，論政，論礼，論時の5項目から成る。道，学，政，礼，時など基本的な諸概念を中心に，正志斎の思想を体系的に漢文で論述したもの。政治論を主とした別著《新論》に対し，学問論としての意味をもち，両著は表裏の関係にあるといえる。全巻の刊行は92年で，その抄録は《日本経済大典》などに収載されている。【鈴木暎一】
