A term in developmental biology. If development proceeds normally, each germinal region of an animal's early embryo will eventually form specific tissues and organs and become a specific part of the individual. For example, in amphibians such as newts and frogs, the central nervous system and sensory organs form in the dorsal germinal region of the blastula, because development proceeds without abnormalities and the germinal region is able to follow the planned developmental path without error. The developmental fate that each germinal region of an embryo should follow during the course of normal development is called the predestined fate of each germinal region.
